When I’m in the mood for Udon, I love going to Omen A Zen in Soho in New York City. Introduced by a good friend who is an expert on Japanese food, Omen A Zen serves traditional dishes from Kyoto with a modern feel and ambience.
For tonight’s meal, my friends and I ordered several dishes to share with our Udon. We had the Agadashi, Black Codfish and Omen (Udon with servings of goodies).
Update: Unfortunately, Hecho en Dumbo closed in June 2018. It was truly satisfied my craving for Mexican food in NYC.
Growing up in Southern CA, I had the privilege to eat authentic Mexican food, especially made by my grandmas and moms of friends. So I’m a tough critic when it comes to Mexican food. Still on the quest for the best Mexican food in NYC, Hecho en Dumbo in the East Village so far makes it on the top of my list for it.
Mid-thirties degrees today, here in New York City. It’s Spring, but feels like Winter! On cold “Winter” days like this, I crave a nice hot bowl of stew. I opted for a quick, hot meal at K-Bap, a small Korean place in Midtown West.
Bánh Mí – the Vietnamese Sandwich – is my all-time favorite lunch item. Growing up in Southern California, I could always get it freshly made at any sandwich shop in Little Saigon or my Grandma’s house.
Nam Pung Sandwich Shop
in New York City is one of my Go-To places for a sandwich that takes me back to my childhood. Nam Pung does an amazing, modern Cambodian take on the Bánh Mí . One of their signature sandwiches that I’m crazy about is the Five-Spice Glazed Pork Belly sandwich.

After a long day filled with hosting and coordinating New Year activities for our families and communities, my Chinese and Vietnamese friends and I were finally able to sit down, eat and enjoy the first day of a prosperous year ahead of us!
We went to one of our favorite spots in Chinatown in NYC, Old Shanghai Deluxe. We ordered several dishes that we loved from the restaurant and must have for this holiday.
A Lunar New Year dinner must always have dumplings, and we were craving for the restaurant’s Soup Dumplings.
French BFF and I reserve our weekend mornings for running and brunch. After an exhilarating long run, we brought our hubbies to brunch with us at Petite Abeille, a Belgian restaurant in Union Square in New York City.
Our hubbies ordered their own dishes. French BFF and I selected two dishes to share.
Our first dish was the Chicken & Waffle.
It’s Restaurant Week in New York City! My French BFF and I decided to take advantage of this by utilizing our lunch hour at Bar Boulud in the Upper West Side.
Taïm is my all-time favorite place for Falafel! Taïm means tasty in Hebrew, and so is their falafel! Though I work in Midtown Manhattan, I still make the trek downtown to the West Village to relieve my craving for falafel.
Pressed for time but in need of a filling, comforting lunch, I like to go to Margon in Midtown West in Manhattan. It’s less than a 10-minute walk from my office, and whenever I arrive, the staff members recognize my face and always give me my order in 15 minutes or less.
I discovered Kopitiam, this hidden gem, during one of my walks in Chinatown. It’s a small “stop and go” place that serves typical Malaysian dishes for breakfast and snacks. It’s run by a Malaysian family, and their kitchen is the size of my bathroom…Tiny! Resourceful, creative…their food has to be authentic and good. I made a mental note to return.
I went back and fell in love with the place. My prior thoughts were also correct. This is now one of my top 10 places in Chinatown.
